U.S. President Donald Trump has officially imposed a 15 percent tariff on Nigeria, along with Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Mozambique, Mauritius, Ghana, Malawi, Lesotho, Madagascar, and several other African nations.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the White House on Thursday
The Executive Order, titled “Further Modifying the Reciprocal Tariff Rates,” said, “These modifications shall be effective with respect to goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m.”
The United States also imposed varying tariff rates on other nations, including South Africa and Libya at 30 percent each, and Tunisia at 25 percent.

The tariff list further included the United Kingdom (10 percent), India (25 percent), Japan (15 percent), among others.
It will be recalled that on April 2, 2025, the U.S. announced, through an Executive Order, the introduction of import tariffs on multiple countries worldwide, including Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise has since outlined the potential impact of Trump’s tariff policy on Nigeria’s economy.
