Deadly Ebonyi Clashes: Two Killed, Seven Kidnapped in Fresh Violence

Ebonyi, Nigeria — Two people were killed, and seven others were kidnapped in a fresh attack on Ikachi in the Akparata area of Effium, Ohaukwu Local Government Area (LGA) of Ebonyi State. The violent incident occurred on Sunday amid ongoing clashes between the Ezza and Effium communities.

Confirming the attack, DSP Joshua Ukandu, the spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, revealed that the assailants not only took lives but also destroyed property worth millions of naira.

“We are aware of the attack, and the command is on top of the situation,” said Ukandu. “We have been working with other security agencies to ensure that peace is returned to the area. The command is also investigating the attack to ascertain the root cause of the matter.”

The Ezza and Effium communities have been locked in deadly clashes since 2021, leading to numerous casualties and extensive property damage. The latest violence has further strained the already tense situation in the state.

Ukandu assured residents that the police are committed to restoring peace and protecting lives and property in Ebonyi. “Our officers and men are dedicated to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of the people in this area,” he emphasized.
