US Deploys Warships, Jets Closer to Israel in Show of Support

The United States has reportedly sent warships and fighter jets closer to Israel as a show of support in response to an unprecedented onslaught by Hamas.

United States Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin made the announcement.

President Joe Biden issued an order for the USS Gerald R. Ford, the most modern aircraft carrier in the US Navy, to be sent to the Eastern Mediterranean along with six additional ships and a handful of cutting-edge fighters.

After lengthy deliberations with President Biden, the decision was made with the goal of “strengthening the Department of Defence’s posture in the region to support regional deterrence efforts.”

Austin has taken steps to strengthen U.S. Air Force F-35, F-15, F-16, and A-10 fighter aircraft units in the area in addition to the Navy’s capabilities. Additionally, the Department of Defence will quickly supply the Israel Defence Forces with new tools and resources, including ammunition.

Austin, who on Sunday also spoke to his Israeli counterpart, stated, “The United States government will be rapidly providing the Israel Defense Forces with additional equipment and resources, including munitions.”

The action follows a significant terrorist strike by Hamas militants that left 700 Israelis dead and others kidnapped. Israel responded by bombarding Gaza with its bloodiest ever attack, which resulted in the deaths of over 400 civilians.

Each year, the US sends Israel, a close friend, billions of dollars in military assistance. This most recent display of solidarity highlights the close relations between the two countries and their shared dedication to regional security.
