Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters Honoris Causa by Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
Okonjo-Iweala shared the news on her official X handle, expressing her gratitude for the honor received in Washington, D.C.
In addition to receiving the honorary degree, Okonjo-Iweala delivered the commencement address at both the undergraduate and master’s ceremonies. She reported that her speech was met with a standing ovation, highlighting the positive reception from the audience.
Okonjo-Iweala stated, “A great honour to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree of Doctor of Humane Letters Honoris Causa by the @Georgetown University School of Foreign Service today in Washington DC.
“Also gave the Commencement address at both the Undergraduate Degree and Masters Ceremonies! Delighted at the wonderful reception of the speech with a standing ovation.
“Humble to be able to share what the @WTO is accomplishing whilst also lifting the spirits of young graduates who are the worlds future in these troubled times!!
