In a harrowing incident on federal highways in Niger State, bandits unleashed terror by fatally shooting a bus driver and abducting eight passengers during a brazen attack that occurred last Saturday.

The victims, en route to the coronation of the chairman of kingmakers and chief priest of Bakarabonde in Borgu Kingdom, fell prey to the assailants’ ruthless assault.

Family members of the abducted individuals were reportedly contacted by the bandits, who have demanded a steep N17 million ransom for the release of their captives.

The ruthless attackers didn’t stop at kidnapping, as they callously set the bus ablaze after completing their operation, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Confirming the distressing incident, Sulaiman Yerima, Chairman of Borgu Local Government Area, expressed his deep regret, describing the situation as unfortunate.

He further confirmed the ransom demand made by the kidnappers, adding another layer of anguish to the already grievous situation.

The Niger State Police Command is actively engaged in the matter, with its spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, acknowledging the incident and assuring that he is awaiting a comprehensive report from the Borgu Division.
