Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has pointed out a crucial advantage that Arsenal holds over Manchester City in the ongoing Premier League title race.
With Arsenal currently trailing City by just two points at the second position on the Premier League table, Wenger emphasized the significance of Arsenal’s superior goal difference.
Arsenal’s recent setback, a surprising defeat to Aston Villa, raised eyebrows in the championship race.
Wenger expressed his astonishment at the turn of events, particularly City regaining the top spot. He noted the unexpected nature of both Arsenal and City potentially experiencing setbacks simultaneously at this crucial stage of the season.
However, with six matches remaining to conclude the 2023/24 Premier League season, Wenger believes Arsenal’s goal difference is an advantage for Arteta’s side.
According to him, if Pep Guardiola’s side play a draw in their next Premier League match and Arsenal wins, the North London club will go top of the table.
Wenger said on beIN SPORTS, “It was a complete surprise [Arsenal’s defeat to Aston Villa].
“When you play for the championship, at home, with a few games to go, and you have the opportunity to make a difference, you have to take it.

“The surprise of the weekend is that Man City have their noses in front again, nobody expected that. Maybe one of those teams can have a bad result but not both, that was quite surprising.
“But Arsenal still have an advantage with the goal difference so even if Man City draw a game and we win, we will be in front of them,” he added.
